The Northwell Health Cancer Institute establishes the Pancreatic Cancer Center in collaboration with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and the Lustgarten Foundation, the largest funder of pancreatic cancer research. The Northwell Health central sterilization center, the largest facility for disinfecting and sterilizing medical instruments in the world, processes more than 22 million surgical instruments annually, providing service to nine hospitals and more than 100 physician practices.
The Northwell Health Clinical Call Center (CCC), is an Accredited Center of Excellence for telephonic nurse triage. Operating 24 hours a day, seven days per week, the CCC fielded over 36,000 inbound calls in 2019. The CCC supports over 10 Northwell Health businesses and clinical service lines, including off-hours clinical support to 23 medicine service line (MSL) practices, with plans to expand support to a total of 53 MSL practices by the end of 2020.

Michael Dowling, Northwell Health’s president and CEO, issues a call to action on gun violence, calling it a public health crisis. In December, Northwell hosts a Gun Violence Prevention Summit in Manhattan, drawing representatives from more than 100 health systems and medical and health trade organizations across the country. As part of its response to gun violence, the Northwell Health Trauma Institute trains more than 3,000 individuals throughout the New York area in its Stop the Bleed program that teaches individuals how to control bleeding until help arrives.

The Northwell Health Care Management Organization, Health Solutions, provides administrative oversight, data analytics and clinical care coordination/case management services for Northwell Health’s value-based cohorts, its Medicaid Health Home, and for employees enrolled in its health plans. Northwell Health opens a 101,000 square foot Core Lab featuring North America’s largest Roche Diagnostics automated testing line. The project is part of the Clinical Laboratory of New York (CLNY) Alliance formed by Northwell Health and NYC Health + Hospitals to integrate laboratory services. The new lab facility is capable of processing 5,000 tubes per hour and 55 million annually.
Nearly 40,000 babies are delivered annually at Northwell Health hospitals — accounting for 17 percent of all births in New York State and one percent nationally.
Food as Health, the first hospital-based initiative in New York State to comprehensively address food insecurity among patients, is extended beyond the pilot site to other Northwell Health hospitals in 2019. It is one of many Northwell Health programs that focus on social determinants of health.

In 2019, CareMount Medical, a physician-owned, multi-specialty medical practice with 45 locations throughout the Hudson Valley and Manhattan, became a health system affiliate.
